Amazing Winter Fruit Salad

March 16, 2021 by Chef Lisa Leave a Comment

amazing winter fruit salad

The cold months feature wonderful root vegetables and citrus, apples, pears kiwis and pomegranate as the fruit in season. This amazing Winter fruit salad is perfect to enjoy the fresh flavor and textures in the cold months.

Not only is this dish beautiful to look at, but it is also so quick to make with hearty fruit featuring crunchy textures. And the combination of flavors is insane.

All about Pomegranates

Pomegranates originated in the the Middle East on bushes, but the fruit we buy are grown primarily in California. They are in season from September through November, but you can often find the whole fruit in grocery stores through January. There are a bunch of videos online about how to cut and deseed a pomegranate. Just be careful as the juice can stain clothes.

Once the fresh fruit is no longer in the produce section, you can find the arils (seeds) sold in cups in the refrigerator section. I find that the arils in cups can get a little slimy. Make sure you rinse them well and gently pat them dry before using.

Another option for this recipe is to use frozen pomegranate seeds. Check the frozen section where the fruit is sold at your grocery store.
