Description

This fresh cranberry sauce is easy to prepare and a fantastic condiment for turkey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces cranberries (about 31/4 cups)
  • 11/2 cups sugar
  • 3 navel oranges (supremes and finely chopped) (about 21/2 cups) and (6 tablespoons orange zest)
  • 3 tart apples (like honey crisp, granny smith, or pink lady) finely chopped (about 3 cups)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Zest all three oranges and reserve zest to use in the recipe.
  2. In a food processor, coarsely chop cranberries. Remove and transfer the fruit to a medium bowl.
  3. Stir in the sugar and orange zest and mix to combine.
  4. Supreme each orange and chop orange flesh into 1/4” pieces. Stir orange flesh into cranberry mixture.
  5. Wash and remove the core from the apples and cut into 1/4” pieces. Add the apple pieces to the cranberry mixture and stir to incorporate everything together.
  6. Stir in the salt and let rest for 30 minutes to ensure all the sugar has dissolved and the flavors have a chance to meld together.
  7. Serve as a condiment to your holiday meal

Notes

This is the basic recipe. Add 1/2 cup finely minced fresh parsley to add a fresh herbal taste and a festive red and green condiment.

Add 1 seeded and finely diced jalapeño, 1/3 cup minced cilantro, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to the basic recipe to make a sweet and spicy condiment that is perfect for smoked turkey.
